The best coleslaw dressing is a little sweet, a little tangy, and super creamy. It should turn some shredded cabbage and grated vegetables into a delicious, mayo-based salad that’s perfect as a side for picnics or as a topping for pulled pork sandwiches.
Before I started working here, I didn’t know premade coleslaw dressing existed. When I found out it was mostly just a mix of sugar, vinegar, and mayonnaise, I thought it was overrated. Why can’t you just make that at home? After tasting all these varieties, I realized that coleslaw sauce is actually delicious and is worth buying. These jarred and bottle dressings are formulated to be perfectly balanced, quick to use, and affordable to buy. And when it comes to the best dressing for coleslaw, these are our favorites.
Best Shelf Stable
Hidden Valley Coleslaw Topping & DressingWalmartHidden Valley is the only non-refrigerated coleslaw sauce that made our list of the best coleslaw dressing. It’s nice that it’s shelf stable and you don’t have to refrigerate it until after it’s opened. This was the first bottled coleslaw dressing I ever tried and it made me fall in love with the concept of coleslaw dressing in general. This Hidden Valley version is the perfect mix of sweet and savory. It also has a nice level of salt. All in all, this is a great and affordable option for coleslaw dressing!

Best Sweet
Litehouse Coleslaw DressingWalmartThe addition of celery seeds really sets Litehouse coleslaw dressing apart from the other brands we tried. It adds a slight crunch and nice, subtle celery flavor that really complements the sweet dressing. And this dressing is sweet! It still has a nice little zing to it, but the main flavor profile is on the sweeter end. If you’re someone who likes their slaw on the sugary side, this is the best coleslaw dressing for you.

Best Tangy
Marzetti Original Slaw Salad DressingGiant FoodThis coleslaw dressing is outrageously tangy and, because of that, right up my alley. If you like a coleslaw that isn’t super sweet, reach for a bottle of this. I tossed this with shredded red cabbage, thinly sliced white onion, and grated carrot. Then I added it to a flour tortilla with some chicken tenders tossed in BBQ sauce and it made the perfect lunch. I would, in fact, also use this as a regular salad dressing. It’s so tangy that it tastes a little like a creamy balsamic vinaigrette. We love a multi-purpose product!

Marie’s Original Coleslaw DressingWalmartMarie’s is the best coleslaw dressing out there because it strikes the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and salty. When you eat it, it taps every taste bud on your tongue. I also adore the addition of poppy seeds—they add a nice pop of texture and flavor. Plus, speckled slaw is extremely aesthetically pleasing. If you want the best coleslaw dressing to please anyone and everyone, Marie’s is for you.
