Looking for the hottest new dip? Meet lupini bean hummus.
For those of you who didn’t grow up with a Greek uncle Mike, lupini beans are a Mediterranean snacking bean. They almost always come jarred and ready to eat, which is good because cooking them is an arduous, week-long task. They can be eaten with the skin on (that’s how I do it), or you can just squeeze the bean between your fingertips and pop it right out of its shell. You can find them in bars in Portugal, as they are delightful to munch on between sips of beer. Here in the States, you can get them at Italian delis and Greek markets. I usually order mine directly from Cento. They have a savory taste and silky texture, delightfully bitter taste, and they’re starting to show up more in the packaged food world.
Why is that? Well, lupini beans are loaded with protein. They actually pack more protein per cup than any other legume. Due to that fact, they are becoming trendy with the keto crowd, but don’t think of lupini beans solely as a health trend. Lupini beans are delicious and, like all beans, they’re extremely versatile. For example, their meaty, briny texture goes great with bold flavors like garlic and olive oil, which makes lupini beans a natural fit for hummus.
Brami is well aware of this fact and they’re betting that lupini bean hummus will be the next big thing. The company sells packaged lupini beans and now they’re making hummus out of them, too. I ordered the variety pack from their website to taste them and see how their new lupini bean hummus stands up to the classic chickpea version. Here’s my review:
New Product
Original Flavor$29.99 (Variety Pack) AmazonWith each of Brami’s hummus flavors, you can expect a thick, grainy texture and a slightly bitter yet savory taste. Each container of hummus features a hefty amount of olive oil, too, so it tastes decadent and smooth. This is a substantial dip that will put a dent in your appetite. Brami’s products don’t come chilled, but need to be refrigerated after opening (we were confused when our hummus arrived at room temperature). Still, the hummus is all natural and made without preservative agents. All of Brami’s products feature lime concentrate instead of lemon juice, too, so the acidic quality here is a bit brighter than your standard chickpea hummus. The original flavor is standard, but a great standard.

Calabrian Fiesta$29.99 (Variety Pack) AmazonThis hummus is spicy, oily, and grainy. The roasted red peppers add a touch of sweetness. The Calabrian peppers are peppery, fruity, salty, and delightfully sit on your tongue as you chow down. There’s just an awesome balance of flavor in this hummus.

Garlic & Rosemary$29.99 (Variety Pack) AmazonThe rosemary here is piney and peppery. The smell itself is pure joy—people really should gift each other bouquets of lovely, aromatic rosemary. This hummus also has a subtle garlicky bite , so your mouth won’t be ruined after eating this. Overall, it’s just really well balanced and it makes me think more hummus should include rosemary.

Mediterranean Olive$29.99 (Variety Pack) AmazonThe olives permeate every grainy morsel of the hummus here. You know how some hummuses include the olive tapenade on top merely as a garnish? Not Brami. They blend it right into the hummus itself. Every bite of this is salty, briny, and delicious. They also added some capers, which bring a lemony tang to the table. Plus, there’s a noticeable hint of oregano. Quality combination of flavors here, and it all tastes fresh. Way to go, Brami!
